Four questions for Carola Strycharz, who joined corsus in May 2022 as a project administrator:

What did you do before you joined corsus?

My strong interest in the topic of sustainability was already sparked when I started my interdisciplinary Bachelor’s degree in Applied Cultural Studies with a focus on geography and tourism (minor in business administration) at Leuphana University in Lüneburg. In the master’s program in Leisure and Tourism Management at the HS Bremen, my focus was on quality management for services. Subsequently, after a year as an employee, I effectively took over the office management of an agency for individual country houses on the Canary Islands. Until my parental leave, I was responsible for the entire process from the preparation of the offer to the consultation and support of the guests as well as the processing of all documents including invoicing and account management. Website support was also part of my responsibilities, as was marketing. I enjoyed working as an alrounder at the interface between Spanish homeowners and (regular) customers.

corsus advises on sustainability. What do you associate with sustainability?

For me, sustainability means the preservation of creation. I am particularly concerned with avoidable environmental pollution and the destruction of habitats and biodiversity. In my opinion, the availability and cleanliness of water plays a major role in the future of our planet. In everyday life, I try to contribute with responsible consumption, both in terms of clothing and food, as well as in the area of housing and, of course, when traveling. At corsus, I am also able to promote the topic of sustainability in my professional life.

Is there a topic that is particularly close to your heart?

There is so much potential in us humans and at the same time there are many self-destructive processes. I wish with all my heart and for the future of our descendants that reason and charity would gain the upper hand. This requires long-term thinking and the willingness to learn from each other. We are finally beginning to understand the complex interrelationships in the world. May the right priorities be set in time for a future worth living!

What are you currently working on at corsus?

Mainly I support corsus in the project “Climate Impacts of Food”, which is funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety in the framework of the International Climate Protection Initiative. The goal of the project is to develop a globally applicable tool for communicating sustainability impacts of food. corsus is, together with TMG Research gGmbH, one of the partners of the project led by WWF Germany. The focus of my work is the administrative support of the project management at corsus. The lively exchange of knowledge with the team is very enriching. Besides, I take care of the office organization and current news on the homepage.
