corsus accompanies sustainability strategy for the district of Plön
Half-time for the sustainability strategy: corsus supports sustainability management in the district of Plön in the strategy process and moderates the associated events. Guidelines and strategic and operational goals have been formulated since the beginning of the year. Now it’s time to draw up the catalogue of measures.
The district of Plön approaches sustainability in several ways. In addition to a guideline on sustainable procurement and the establishment of a climate protection agency, the development of a sustainability strategy for the district was launched in 2023. The sustainability management team, which has been active since 2022, first drew up an inventory for this purpose. Based on this, the development of a sustainability strategy was put out to tender. corsus was commissioned to support and moderate the process.
The strategy brings together social, environmental and economic issues with the aim of initiating sustainable development for current and future generations. The aim of this extensive process is to link the 17 sustainability goals of the United Nations (UN) with the district’s own issues and to translate the complexity of the requirements into concrete operational goals and tasks for the district. In addition to the specialist departments and employees of the administration, this also requires politicians and citizens who work on the goals to be formulated as representatives of various civil society organisations such as social institutions, non-governmental organisations or associations.
At the start of the project, the first task was to set up the necessary internal project committees and define responsibilities and the process flow. In 2024, the successive stages of the strategy will be designed and refined in an interplay between administration, politics and civil society. Seven fields of action were defined, whose guidelines and strategic goals were derived from the district’s strategic fields of action from 2012. These were modernised and expanded where necessary.
The second participation day took place on 12 July 2024 at the Plön Professional Training Centre, directly opposite the district administration. Social and educational institutions, tourism, district development and the KielRegion, nature conservation, environmental and climate protection as well as political representatives, primarily from the business community, were involved. Working together, the operational goals pre-formulated by the administration were scrutinised and supplemented. The event also served as a networking opportunity for the stakeholders and the intensive content-related work encouraged them to exchange ideas with each other. After the summer break, the status of the strategy will be reported at the meeting of the Committee for Economy, Energy and Tourism and the finalised objectives will be adopted. The next step will be for the administration to fill out a catalogue of measures, which will be developed by our project partner OCF, Our Common Future Consulting.
We would like to sincerely thank all those involved for the time they have contributed and for their work on the content. We would especially like to thank the internal project management team. We look forward to a bold and ambitious strategy that promotes and anchors sustainability in all its complexity in the district and invites participation. The project is commissioned and financed by the district of Plön.
