corsus held a workshop on eco-fair textile procurement at the networking meeting for sustainable procurement in Schleswig-Holstein
The theme of the networking meeting held at the Education Centre for Rural Areas on 27 April was ‘Shaping the future: How can public procurement have a real impact – ecologically, economically and socially?”. In with this, corsus offered a workshop to address existing challenges in eco-fair procurement in a practical way and to develop concrete solutions for implementation in procurement processes.
The workshop, led by Dr.-Ing. Krishan Gairola from corsus, focused on the practical implementation of sustainable textile procurement in the public sector using existing tools. It was designed to reduce the complexity of the topic and to support evidence management in procurement processes. For this purpose, participants were taught the functioning and application of the Federal Government’s Guide to Sustainable Textile Procurement. The regularly updated guideline is currently the most comprehensive systematic compilation of requirements and methods of verification for sustainable textile procurement in Germany. It shows how ecological and social criteria can be systematically integrated into tenders. Additionally, it supports procurement managers to formulate requirements, evidence and award criteria in an understandable manner, and to apply them legally throughout the procurement process.
Approximately 40 participants received an introduction to the guideline for sustainable textile procurement and learnt about its potential applications using practical examples. They subsequently engaged enthusiastically with the guideline’s supporting material for practical application. The supplementary material includes drafting aids for tenders, checklists for the selection of suitable sustainability criteria as well as overviews of possible evidence and certifications. In addition, sample texts, evaluation guides and specific product examples can facilitate the implementation of sustainable textile procurement in day-to-day procurement practices.
At the same time, the participants introduced the questions raised in the exercise and discussed approaches regarding the implementation and simplification of everyday procurement with Dr. Krishan Gairola.
Our special thanks go to the KNBV for organizing the event so well and for the engaging networking session.
