corsus moderates workshop to develop Hamburg’s nutrition strategy

On 4 June 2025, a workshop on the development of the Hamburg Food Strategy was held as part of the Hamburg Sustainability Week, moderated by Dr Krishan Gairola from corsus. The aim of the workshop was to bring together the Ernährungsrat Metropolregion Hamburg e.V. and the Department of Agriculture of the Ministry of Environment, Climate, Energy and Agriculture (BUKEA) to strengthen cooperation in the run-up to the development of a Hamburg food strategy.

During the workshop, the participants had the opportunity to get to know each other and develop a better mutual understanding of the respective working methods and plans. The expectations and understanding of the roles of BUKEA and the Food Council were also discussed. A central concern was to define a joint approach to developing a nutrition strategy for Hamburg in order to clarify how important topics for the nutrition strategy can be advanced. In the first workshop, key points for the next steps were defined, which will be further concretised in a follow-up meeting.

The aim is to draw up a food strategy for the sustainable transformation of the agricultural and food systems in Hamburg by mid-2026, outlining prospects and transformation paths up to 2045. In May 2024, the City Parliament adopted a request to update the agricultural policy concept and develop a Hamburg food strategy. In December 2024, the Senate outlined the procedure with the key points of the food strategy. The BUKEA Hamburg’s Department of Agriculture is responsible for its implementation with the involvement of various stakeholders, in particular the Food Council and the Food Cluster.

corsus is pleased to have accompanied this important step in the process and to have made a contribution to the sustainable development of the agricultural and food systems in Hamburg.
