DIHK commissions corsus to conduct biodiversity training courses for companies

DIHK Service GmbH has commissioned corsus to offer 2026 biodiversity training courses for companies belonging to the regional DIHK/IHK biodiversity alliances. The training courses impart practical knowledge and present specific tools for biodiversity management in companies.

Integrating biodiversity into business and sustainability strategies, and thus into corporate management, poses major challenges for many companies. After all, biodiversity is complex, so where should they start? Many companies are not only wondering how this can be done, but also what benefits they will derive from it: Where should the information and data come from? Isn’t the effort involved very high? How can biodiversity impacts be analysed? What useful tools and measures are available? Is it worthwhile, even if other companies in the market are not doing anything? These and other topics are covered in the training courses – depending on the wishes of the companies in the regional alliances, which are coordinated by the local chambers of commerce and industry and the DIHK.

Why is biodiversity important for companies? Even if it is not directly apparent from the product, half of all economic output depends on biodiversity. The economic value of biological diversity is estimated at between 170 to 190 trillion US dollars annually, at least twice as high as global gross domestic product, while biodiversity loss will cost the global economy 2.7 trillionen US dollars annually by 2030. Even if we do not take into account the resulting social damage, such as heat-related deaths due to overheating in cities, respiratory diseases due to a lack of plant-based air filters, or the destruction of buildings and infrastructure due to uncontrollable flooding, these figures clearly show that it is essential for companies to minimise biodiversity loss and work to protect it. This is in their own best interests.

Gaining information and testing tools, discussing with other companies how they integrate biodiversity into their management and launching joint regional activities to protect biodiversity – all this is the benefit of participating in the free training courses.

The regional biodiversity alliances are initiated by the nationwide project ‘UBi – Unternehmen Biologische Vielfalt’ (Companies for Biological Diversity), which is funded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment and the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation. DIHK Service GmbH is the lead project partner and supports the implementation together with the regional chambers of industry and commerce.
