Flensburg adopts urban development strategy “Flensburg 2030+”
The Flensburg council unanimously approves the newly developed urban development strategy “Flensburg 2030+”. corsus provided intensive support and advice on the development process for two years as part of the SKEW project Globally Sustainable Municipality Schleswig-Holstein.
In 2021, the development of an urban development strategy within the framework of the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals and the New Leipzig Charter was initiated by a political resolution and politically legitimised with the vote on the overall strategy in May 2024.
Broad participation of the citizens and key stakeholders over the development period was planned from the outset so that the concerns and issues of the residents could be incorporated into the strategy.
Through the steering group, which is made up of over 30 representatives from the specialist public, civil society, local politics and the city administration, topics that move and advance the city were incorporated into the strategy. In total, around 950 people from the administration, steering group and, above all, the city’s public have contributed in various participation formats. This resulted in an overall city mission statement and guiding ideas for the seven fields of action with strategic and operational goals for the city of Flensburg.
In the course of developing the strategy, five meetings of the steering group took place, at which the content of the seven fields of action was discussed and finalised. The interim results and the final version of the strategy were discussed at closed meetings for local political representatives in order to reach a political consensus. Participation formats and events gave everyone in Flensburg the opportunity to get involved online, in schools and on site.
A comprehensive strategy has emerged from the joint work of the public, the specialist public, local politicians and the administration. The seven fields of action, 33 strategic goals and 93 operational goals are aimed at, among other things, social cohesion, forward-looking planning and development of urban areas and promotion of the local economy.
We would like to thank everyone who has gone through this complex process with us and contributed a great deal of time and commitment. We look forward to experiencing the implementation of the strategy and are excited about the changes in and for Flensburg.
