Internship at corsus
Mathilda Meseke completed her mandatory internship at corsus in February and March 2024 as part of her studies. She mainly supported our municipal team. It was an enrichment to have Mathilda in our team and we wish her all the best for the future! See you soon!
Here are Mathilda’s impressions:
“I am currently studying Philosophy and Politics, Economics and Society at the Ruhr University Bochum. I’ve been doing an internship at corsus for the last six weeks. In this unfortunately too short but eventful time, I have gained a lot of valuable experience and am proud to be able to share some of it.
Personally, I have been interested in the topic of sustainability for a long time. Naturally, I have tried to minimise my ecological footprint in my private life. However, I was regularly confronted with the thought that my dependence on external circumstances was limiting me and that I often felt powerless as a result. After all, how am I supposed to use public transport in my community if it is not developed? Or which products are labelled to make shopping easier? As a company, corsus addresses precisely these issues. They have shown me that even small steps are beginnings and that everyone should have the desire to make a difference.
I was recently in Sankt Peter-Ording with Dr Anke Butscher and Nynke Hack. There, they completed a two-year process of developing a sustainability strategy. The main focus was on the goals and measures that Sankt-Peter-Ording should implement in order to have a more positive impact on our planet and their community, for example by strengthening public transport connections.
However, Sankt-Peter-Ording was not the only event I had the honour of attending. For example, there was a two-day ECG balancing workshop for the Schweicheln social welfare organisation in Herford. I was given a great deal of trust and was allowed to create the presentation, record the process and prepare the documentation. When participating in such processes, it was nice to see that theoretical concepts, such as the Economy for the Common Good, can be put into practice.
Of course, I still spent most of my time in the office. The working atmosphere at corsus is really excellent. Right from the start, everyone welcomed me with open arms and I was able to be myself every day. At corsus, individuality is valued and everyone’s strengths are encouraged. For example, I was allowed to create visualisation drawings for a workshop because I love and live art. I also noticed positively that all employees always treat each other with respect and warmth, which is something I have never experienced before.
I was also introduced to many different programmes. For example, I had never created an Excel spreadsheet before. However, this was not perceived as a problem, but as an opportunity.
For me, corsus is a company that looks far beyond its own benefits. They have inspired and motivated me to learn more about sustainability and to see new perspectives for a more ecological future. Before the internship, I didn’t realise how far the topic of sustainability goes and that, for example, the supply chain or co-determination also play a major role.
For these and many other reasons, I am incredibly happy that I was able to do this internship. It was an incredibly enriching time.
So my heartfelt thanks to corsus. Not only did I benefit enormously in professional terms, but you also gave me the opportunity to grow personally. I really enjoyed being able to take part in some of your projects and learn from your team.
I would especially like to thank Anke Butscher for her valuable guidance and support. Hope to see you soon!”
