Municipality of St. Peter-Ording nominated for first German SDG Award at UN Climate Change Conference
The municipality of St. Peter-Ording was nominated on November 9 at the UN Climate Change Conference in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt for the first German SDG Award (Sustainable Development Goals) of the Senate of the German Economy in the category “Cities, Municipalities & Counties” out of more than 100 applications. This recognizes the local development concept “Sustainable St. Peter-Ording” as an exemplary project that is consistently aligned with the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. On behalf of the Service Agency Communities in One World (SKEW), corsus is currently working with the municipality of St. Peter-Ording on a sustainability strategy based on the local development concept within the framework of the Global Sustainable Municipality Schleswig-Holstein, which strategically locates the path to achieving the set goals and translates them into practice.
The local development concept (OEK) “Sustainable St. Peter-Ording” is based on a large number of concepts, expert opinions and broad citizen participation. The current draft integrates sustainability into the six fields of action: climate, housing, public services, tourism, traffic and mobility, and the built and natural environment. The final strategic development concentrates on three municipal fields of action with its focal topics:

The German SDG Award is a joint initiative of the Senate of the German Economy and Holtmann GmbH & Co.KG. The award recognizes pioneers of the implementation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs ) of the United Nations Agenda 2030. The German SDG Award publicizes exemplary projects and activities for achieving the SDGs and aims to motivate social, ecological and economic sustainable development at all levels. In its inaugural year 2022, awards will be presented for inspiring projects and initiatives in four categories: business, youth & education, media & journalism, and cities, municipalities & counties.
The German SDG Awards ceremony will take place on December 10 as part of the Annual Convention of the Senate of German Business in Munich. The livestream is available on the website of the Senate of German Business, https://sdg-award.de/, under the Media Library section.
The project “Globally Sustainable Municipality Schleswig-Holstein” supports municipalities, districts and cities in the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals since 2017. Since then, corsus has been commissioned by SKEW as a contractual partner together with Hannah Heinevetter Beratung for the implementation.
