Policy and Research Roundtable Dialogue on Integrated Climate-Nutrition Action

On 5 February 2025, Talita Amado from corsus participated at the Policy and Research Roundtable Dialogue on Integrated Climate-Nutrition Action. The pivotal roundtable event was co-hosted by FAO and the Government of France, bringing together policymakers, researchers, and global stakeholders to address two of the most pressing challenges of our time: climate change and malnutrition. This hybrid event, held at the FAO Sheikh Zayed Centre and online, focused on the intersection of climate-smart and nutrition-sensitive actions as a pathway to achieving SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and the 1.5°C Paris Agreement Goal.

impacts of food

The roundtable highlighted the profound impacts of climate change on human nutrition, including:

  • Reduced Food Availability: Extreme weather events and declining crop yields threaten food security, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.
  • Declining Nutritional Quality: Rising CO2 levels reduce protein and micronutrient content in staple crops, exacerbating hidden hunger.
  • Increased Malnutrition Risks: Climate change worsens undernutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, and diet-related diseases.
  • Food Safety Challenges: Contaminants and pathogens in the food chain are on the rise due to extreme weather and higher temperatures.
  • Regional Disparities: Vulnerable regions like Africa and Southeast Asia face the greatest challenges due to their reliance on rain-fed agriculture and limited adaptive capacity.

Supported by I-CAN partners—including WHO, GAIN, SUN Movement, ST4N/Micronutrient Forum, and SickKids Hospital/Aga Khan University—this event marked a significant step toward the 2025 Nutrition for Growth (N4G) Summit in Paris. The outcomes will also contribute to UNFCCC processes and COP30, shaping global climate and nutrition agendas.

As we move forward, it is clear, that integrated action is not just an opportunity but a necessity. At corsus, we are committed to understanding the impacts of climate change on nutrition and developing science-based solutions to ensure a sustainable food-secure future for all.

Thanks for having had the opportunity to attend this important dialogue, and to gain valuable insights into the latest developments in integrated climate-nutrition action!
