Food waste

Within the framework of the project “Development of Instruments for the Avoidance of Food Waste” (FKZ 3712 32 311) commissioned by the Federal Environment Agency, a reliable assessment of the environmental impacts associated with the losses in the production, distribution and consumption of food by the German population was carried out for the first time. Based on an analysis of existing proposed measures and the further possibilities for government action, concrete measures are also proposed which can be expected to effectively reduce relevant food waste and which can be taken by the Federal Environment Ministry as part of the implementation of the German waste avoidance programme.
