Sustainability reporting and sustainability concept Studierendenwerk Hamburg
In 2024, corsus is supporting Studierendenwerk Hamburg in its preparations for sustainability reporting and the strategic anchoring of sustainability through a sustainability concept.
The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) is an EU-wide directive that regulates and expands corporate sustainability reporting. It replaces the previous Non-Financial Reporting Directive (NFRD) and places corresponding requirements on the transparency and detail of reporting. This reporting covers various aspects, including the reduction of CO2 emissions, the promotion of fair working conditions, the support of local communities and the promotion of diversity and inclusion. The aim of these reports is to create transparency and encourage the organisation to improve its sustainability performance. Companies subject to the CSRD criteria must prepare and publish corresponding sustainability reports and disclose sustainability data in accordance with specific standards that contain detailed information on environmental, social and economic aspects. Studierendenwerk Hamburg fulfils the CSRD criteria in terms of size and business activities. As an institution responsible for the social and economic support of students, Studierendenwerk Hamburg can be considered an organisation of public interest, especially as it plays a significant role in Hamburg’s regional education policy. As things currently stand, Studierendenwerk Hamburg will be required to report from 2026 for the 2025 reporting year. According to corsus, sustainability reporting is an essential component of corporate management that enables Studierendenwerk Hamburg to transparently manage and present its ecological, social and economic performance. Sustainability thus plays a key role for Studierendenwerk Hamburg, a central institution for supporting students in Hamburg, as it directly influences the quality of life and environment of students and promotes environmentally conscious, socially responsible and economically viable practices in the main areas of its activities. For this reason, corsus supported and advised Studierendenwerk Hamburg in the course of a comprehensive stakeholder and materiality analysis in accordance with the double materiality according to CSRD for sustainability reporting and in the development of a sustainability concept.
This sustainability concept presents the strategic guidelines, operational goals and concrete measures that Studierendenwerk Hamburg implements in order to minimise its ecological footprint, promote the well-being of students and support a just society. The sustainability concept strengthens the commitment to continuous improvement and accountability to stakeholders, including students, employees and the public. Studierendenwerk Hamburg’s sustainability concept is a living document that is regularly reviewed and adapted to new challenges and findings.
