Evaluating sustainability.
Sustainability means designing products, services and processes in an environmentally and socially responsible manner. The first step is to understand the implications for sustainability. How can we determine which option is the more sustainable one? Which assessment method is the most appropriate? How should assessment and impact evaluation methods be further developed? corsus is conducting research exactly on these issues.
The sustainability impacts of products, services and processes can be quantified using scientifically sound methods to identify the more sustainable option.
- how environmental, social and economic impacts are evaluated by means of the Life Cycle Assessments (Environmental Life Cycle Assessment, eLCA), Social Life Cycle Assessment, (sLCA) as well as Life Cycle Costing (LCC) und measuring the true costs (True Cost Accounting, TCA),
- how impact assessment methods can be developed and further improved, for example regarding impacts on biodiversity,
- how the functional unity in Life Cycle Assessments must be further developed to jointly evaluate the health-related and ecological aspects of food,
- how to assess the contribution of products and processes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and
- how environmental services can be communicated in form of certifications.
